How the living wage and minimum wage increases affects us all!

Minimum Wage

The recent increases in the UK minimum and living wage are welcomed by many people and it’s obviously a key role of a caring society to protect those people who may struggle to afford housing and paying bills.

Whilst the minimum wage is a legal requirement, the living wage is optional for employers to pay their staff.

The increases will affect many businesses over the coming years and the catering industry may be affected more than most.

Whilst welcoming the increases, we must also be aware of maintaining the gap between the unskilled work force and experienced, professional chefs who are already in short supply.

To maintain this gap we  will be required to pay our chefs more and the as always, this cost will inevitably be passed on to the customer.

The days of families eating out on a regular basis may soon become a thing of the past as the additional costs begin to bite.
